Best Practices when Free Motion Quilting

The following suggestions are a few things that I have found work well for me when free motion quilting.  You may find that they might work for you also.

Practice, Practice, Practice and when you are done practicing...
Practice, Practice, Practice again.  Practice on paper doodling and then on fabric. Keep your stress level down by not worrying about crossed lines and make it perfect.  It will come with time. You will find what works best for you.

Open view – Open toe Find the right foot for you to have the best view of what you are quilting.  There are many feet available for different machines.  Check with your sewing machine Dealer to see what your options are.

Lighting - Seeing what you are doing makes it more enjoyable and keeps us loving to create.

Starched fabrics move smoothly - I do not think that I could live without Best Press.  When using Best Press, there is no flaking, residue on any fabrics including dark or clogging of the sprayer.  The formula is made up of a special stain shield that will protect your fabrics and resist wrinkles once you complete the pressing process.  So, don't miss trying and using this great product.

Bobbins up - Bring your bobbin thread up to the top of your quilt

Relax and breathe - Find what makes you relax...music, dancing, walking, yoga, and don't forget to breathe.

Happy Quilting,
Denise
